Mountains

  • Angel of Shavano

Every spring in the Rocky mountains the runoff begins. Around mid June most of the snow has melted leaving an impression on Mt. Shavano of an angel. During the extra dry years the angel will melt, releasing water to the farms in the valley around Salida, Colorado. How soon the Angel of Shavano melts is always of great interest to the people who live in the Upper Arkansas river valley. This location along Squaw creek provided a nice frame of Mt. Shavano. I exposed Fujichrome Velvia @ f32 @ 1/15 second. Equipment: Tachihara 4×5 field view camera, 150mm f5.6 Schneider, Bogen 3028 tripod, Pentax spotmeter.

The Parry Primrose created an interesting foreground that led the eye into the Sawatch range. I exposed Fujichrome Velvia at f32 @ ⅛ second.
